At Minchinhampton C of E Academy Nursery we believe each child is special. We seek to give the children the very best by creating a unique place where play is valued and where the children have fun and learn through exciting, challenging experiences both indoors and outdoors.
The Nursery aims to provide a stable, secure, caring and stimulating learning environment where children of all abilities will have opportunities to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially, to become both confident and independent learners.
We work closely with parents to provide a rich learning experience for each individual child. On offer are activities and experiences that allow each child to learn and develop through play in a fun and exciting way, across all areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
Each child has their own detailed learning journey which charts their experiences and progress throughout their time with us. We strongly believe in the importance of working closely with parents and as such parents have the opportunity to discuss and reflect upon their child’s progress with us at many intervals during the course of the year. We invite and welcome parental feedback at all times and endeavor to use this to reflect upon the provision we offer.
The Nursery is a fully integrated part of the school and as such has the benefit of being able to use school grounds and resources. We work very closely with the Reception classes and children in our Nursery become very familiar with the school environment which eases their transition into school. We also introduce Letters and Sounds, Talk for Writing and number work using Numicon in Nursery, all of which the children will build upon during their progression through school.
In the Autumn term, we take part in the FS/KS1 Christmas Production which is always a joyful and exciting time in the school year. During the Summer term, we have a Nursery trip. In recent years we have visited a farm where the children were able to see animals such as donkeys, wallabies, pygmy goats and micro pigs, Slimbridge and Westonbirt Arboretum.
The Nursery benefits from a lovely, secure, outside garden which has a paved area, a canopy to enable all year round outside play, a mud kitchen (which is always very popular!), a bamboo wigwam for imaginative play, a vegetable patch and a partially planted area for exploring and adventures.
From time to time we seek to enrich the children’s experience by inviting parents and outside visitors into the Nursery to talk about specific topics. We have recently been visited by a Police Officer, a parent who did some cooking with us, some musicians and a Personal Trainer who talked to us about healthy eating and the importance of keeping fit.
The Nursery is open Mon-Thurs 9.00am – 3.00pm pm (term time only). Children are accepted into the Nursery from 2 years 9 months. Government funding is available for 3 and 4 year olds and in some circumstances, for 2 year olds. Funding vouchers are accepted.
