Science- this term we have been ‘thinking scientifically’ and looking at FORCES. This week we concentrated on levers. We learnt the new words: fulcrum, pivot, load and effort. We discussed some levers we knew already- seesaws, bottle openers, wheelbarrows and even our arms! The most fun we had was with our pretend trebuchets! (See photo). Our investigations included- amount of effort v load to maintain a balanced force. Also, whether the distance from the fulcrum meant you could increase load and keep it balanced. With our trebuchets, we could explore distance v load v pivot point. If you find any maths counters outside, please return them to Cobalt class!
Class read- we finished our first class book this week- Dead Man’s Cove by Lauren St John. An adventure story set in St Ives. Please ask your child if they can remember the plot! Next up is Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
