Using charcoal in Art we constructed our marvellous art pieces based off of extinct animals all the way back Stone Age. We used pencil for the main structure and charcoal for shading. We applied shadow to our Stone Age animals by applying pressure where there is meant to be shadow. This gives the effect of depth, providing a more stylised image.
On the playground we drew animals from the Stone Age with chalk in their actual size. Some or the animals were huge!
As part of our history learning we made pots because in the Stone Age they had pots to store things in, tell stories from about their life and as decoration.
In English we made chants to scare away a bear like the character Charlie in ‘The Wild Way Home’. In our story they’re stuck in the Stone Age. There were a lot of predatory animals back then so they had to scare a bear away and they decided to chant to scare it away. So here we made our own to replicate the story.
In History we made longbarrows out of sticks, stones and grass to cover the top to make it look like it was built in a mound of earth. Longbarrows were used as communal burials and there’s on in Rodmarton!
Last week at the cathedral we were representatives of Minchinhampton School at the annual DGAT Year 6 Leavers event. There was lots of talking about moving on into secondary school and even though most of our new schools won’t be religious, God will still be with us. We watched a video where secondary school pupils talked about their religious life in school. We also sang some songs that we had learnt the dances to in class. It was nice that every school had a part to play in the service whether it was speaking or the parade.
