Cobalt Scientists
So far in Science In Cobalt, we have been thinking about what it is to be a scientist. We have focussed on designing, carrying out and drawing conclusions from lots of mini experiments. We have learnt the difference between our variables- dependent (the one you measure), independent (the one you keep the same) and control (the other variables that need to be same). We know it is important to have a fair test.
We have talked about properties of materials and reversible and irreversible changes. We have carried out experiments on absorbency, decantation, filtering, sieving, solubility, oxidisation (rusting) and thermal insulators.
Daisy: It has been really fun doing the experiments especially the one with ice cubes.
Isaac: In Science we have done loads of experiments testing the properties of materials. I have really enjoyed doing it and it has been fun to learn about.
Arthur: I find it enjoyable and interesting. Some things happen that surprise me and some of the outcomes aren’t what I expected. I really liked the ice one!
Cody: My favourite lesson was the solubility circus with several stations around the playground. I really enjoyed using the magnets with sand and paperclips.
Danny: I find Science fun and exciting because you can be curious with how you do things. It is good to just play around with things and find out things you weren’t expecting.
Cobalt are adventure gamers (Scratch)

Kit: Using Scratch was very fun but it took us a whole day, and we almost didn’t finish! Some people’s project like ours didn’t work properly (we had to learn how to debug our program). I was pleased with how we typed text into the program. When I tried this at home, I didn’t know how to do it, so I am pleased I know how to do it now. The problem with ours was that our snake wasn’t moving. I would give this day 10/10.
