SKY CLASS Newsletter WB:19/5/25
We have done a lot this term – the last week has been busy for the Y5’s and Y6’s.The Y6’s have been working hard in their SATs this week which they have done well at. On the other hand the Y5’s have had a weird schedule. The thing they enjoyed most was making dream catchers, we also had maths which we were doing Roman numerals that had a fun song to go along with it! That pretty much sums up our week but we have also had some cool lessons this past term.
In English we created a news report about a scene from our book called: The Song From Somewhere Else. It was very interesting to see other people’s reports! We also got to move the desks around to make it more “in the role.” We used props from the classroom to make it more realistic.
Next, in Art we have been learning about cave art from the stone age. We actually went outside for a lesson the other day and we were making cave art on rocks and the path. We used natural materials to do so. We were taking inspiration from artists who had be inspired by cave art and drew our own in our books. In our previous lesson we drew a bull in the style of William Grill.
In History we created a timeline of our history learning and added on the stone and bronze age. Our first lesson on this topic was a walk around Gatcombe to see stones from the stone age. This was a fantastic walk where we saw the Longstone and Tinglestone.
In Science we have been looking at classification keys. We learnt about different kingdoms and how these are separated into further groups for all living things. We drew our own classification keys to identify leaves from around the school grounds too. This really worked our brains!
The Y5/6 girls recently went to a successful football tournament. The teams there were Wycliffe school and Lakeside school. The A and B girls played very well. The A team lost one match out of their 4 but the B team won all of them! They won against Lakeside A team and lost against Wycliffe A team. And the B team won against lakeside B team and Wycliffe A team. All the players played very well and they can’t wait for the next tournament!!
