Our new topic in science is Space. We are going to learn all about the planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. I’m very excited to learn about the planets because my favourite subject is science and I’ve always wanted to be a rocket scientist at NASA. I know a few interesting facts about space:
- The sun is a million times bigger than the earth
- The sun is 15 million degrees at the core
- A way to remember the planets is: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nuggets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)

Last Friday we played TENNIS! It was really fun! Mr Tovey was teaching us tons of tricks and skills, like: how many keepie uppies can you do, can you do it whilst walking, jogging etc, etc. Then we played a really awesome game where you stand in the middle of the muga and bat tennis balls into a bucket. It got extremely tense but in the end the YEAR 5s WON! YAAAAAY! Thomas
We used manikins to help us draw people that were in proportion. It was challenging to draw people but using the manikins made it easier. It was easier because you had to draw balls for joints and tubes to join them. It was fun because you got to position them. If we did the manikins again, I would make them look like they were doing something instead of just standing –something like putting their hands up. Immie
In school we have done research on birds. We have looked at bird houses in preparation for making a bird house. We looked into the sizes of boxes and holes for different birds. We will make the boxes out of hard material. We hope that we get some visits from the birds. Buddy
A few days ago we started talking about World War 2 in topic. We started off by listening to a YouTube clip of the sound of the alarm and bomb sounds – we closed our eyes and imagined what it would be like to actually be there. We watched videos of children getting on to a train and saying goodbye to their parents to go to the countryside. Some evacuees didn’t even know what a cow was! After that, we started reading Goodnight Mr Tom and poetry about World War 2. Ollie
In PE, we’re doing gymnastics and I love it! I enjoyed the part where me and my partner did a routine. When I did a headstand, the blood rushed to my head! I have been trying to do a head stand against the wall with a pillow under my head. I have also learnt how to do a cartwheel. Ruby
A few days ago, we had a sports afternoon. We played football and handball. I liked football the most. I didn’t score any goals because I was a midfielder. Next time, I’m going to score! Dylan
