We embrace RE as a subject partly because of its potential for deep thinking; for asking the big questions in life.
This Spring Year 5/6 have been asking the question, ‘If God were holy and loving, why is there suffering in the world.’ Here are some of their responses:-
- ‘God is holy and loving but he has left people free will to do what they want and has allowed them to make mistakes and learn from these.’
- ‘Unfortunately only some people seem to learn from their mistakes.’
- ‘It’s our fault that there are bad things happening in the world- this is our responsibility, not God’s’
- ‘God has gifted us freedom. It is up to us to use it well.’
