Aztec Experience                    Year 5/6              Autumn 2020

We cover the National Curriculum. ‘The National Curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thoughts and said, and helps to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.’ However as a primary school we prefer to think in terms of cultural literacy as opposed to cultural capital- that is opening the children up to enough culture; this allied to a love of learning;  that they are well set up for fulfilment through the rest of their education and in their lives beyond, ‘..only through ordering what you know by comparing every truth with every other truth can you take complete possession of your knowledge and get it into your power.’  Schopenhauer p.68

Year 5/6 enjoyed an Aztec ‘experience’ day which ignited their interest in the topic and introduced them to new exciting knowledge about the Aztecs.
