Cursive writing

Reading in Reception is coming along well.  Mrs Saeed and Mrs Bugg are impressed with the progress the children are making and the effort that everyone is putting in to practising the letter sounds and reading the words at home.  We have almost learnt the alphabet sounds – just j,v,w,x,y,z and qu to go and inevitably some children are now ready to begin writing words, captions and sentences.

In school we use the cursive script for writing and the children will soon be taught how each letter is formed but, to get a head start, here is a video that shows you how we write each letter. Please be aware that we form x and z slightly differently in school to what you see in the video.

World Cup Final – Reception

The final between Wales and Scotland has now been played.

The match took place during lunch time and the referee was Kieran Forbes from Forest Green Rovers.  It was a nail biting match.  Both goalies played particularly well but in the end it was the right foot of Fergus that won the match for Scotland.

Scotland  2  –  1  Wales

It has been a truly amazing football tournament and we have all been every impressed with the talent and commitment of the players. Well done to everyone that took part.

Eels in School

Return of Elvers – Earthrise – Al Jazeera English.

On Monday 14th July we will be releasing our elvers back into the wild. We will be walking down to Well Hill Lake at 1.30pm and should be back in school by 3pm. Please sign the permission form in the bookbag and let us know if you are able to help to walk the children down to the lake and back to school.

Dutch Day

Today was our  Dutch Day and we had a super fun time.

We tasted a number of traditional Dutch dishes. Here was our menu for the day;

Hotchpotch (or in Dutch Hutspot) is a dish of boiled and mashed potatoes, carrots and onions with a long history in traditional Dutch cuisine

Nasi met Kroepoek – Indonesian rice and prawn crackers

Frikandel Speciaal – Dutch sausage

Gouda cheese

Pepernoten- a Dutch cookie.
