The Little Red Hen and The Tall Yellow Giraffe

In class we have been retelling the story of the Little Red Hen using actions in the style of Pie Corbett. Some of us have been brave enough to stand up and retell the story to the whole class.
We had a visit from a very friendly hen called Cluck Cluck and although she wasn’t very red or very little, we were able to look closely at her legs, feet, beak and feathers.

We have had a go at making dough, just like the little red hen.

This week we have decided to rewrite the story using a new main character, the tall yellow giraffe. I wonder how many of you can remember the words and actions?
This is how it goes.

Once upon a time there was a tall yellow giraffe who lived in the jungle. Early one morning, she woke up and went outside. There she found some banana seeds.
“Who will help me plant the banana seeds?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me water the banana seeds?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me pick the bananas?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me carry the bananas to the bakers?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me mash the bananas with a fork?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me mix the bananas with the butter, flour and sugar?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me bake the banana cake?” said the tall yellow giraffe.
“Not I” said the cheetah.
“Not I” said the elephant.
“Not I” said the monkey.
“Oh very well I’ll do it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.

“Who will help me eat the banana cake?”
“I will” said the cheetah.
“I will” said the elephant.
“I will” said the monkey.
“Oh no you won’t, I’ll eat it myself” said the tall yellow giraffe, and so she did.
Four leaf clover, my story’s over.

Week 3

Well we are now at the end of week 3 and the children are all settling into the new routines in class. We started letters and sounds this week and the children have learnt the phonemes s, a, t and p. We have learnt the action and song to go with the sound and even had a go at writing the letters using our cursive writing style. I have been very impressed with how well all the children sat, listened, joined in and had a go. Apologies if your child came home with pen on them. They are still getting used to using a whiteboard and pen. Lucy wrote some excellent cursive t’s on her legs today! Well done everyone for working so hard.
Please check the reading folders and practise the four sounds over the weekend.
See you all on Monday for day 1 of full days!

First Week

Wow, what a fantastic first week we have had in school. Mrs Saeed and Mrs Nicholls have been very impressed with how quickly the children are settling in, playing nicely together, listening well and enjoying their first days in Aqua Class. We have been playing inside with horses, train track, duplo, lego and buying and selling in our class shop. Lots of us like to draw and I am sure some pictures have been coming home in book bags. We all have lots of energy and outside we have been building, running, playing with balls and hoops and playing in the house. Yesterday we played on the tyres on the school field and it was lots of fun.
Well done everyone and see you on Monday.
