A visit from Dr Haynes

Today we were very lucky to have a visit from Dr Haynes and her assistant / patient, Isabelle who came in to school to talk to us about what it is like to be a doctor. Dr Haynes showed us lots of gadgets that she uses to check her patients including a stethoscope,  auroscope,  blood pressure monitor and a pulse oximeter.

We shared our doctor stories and asked lots of questions. Lots of us want to be a doctor when we grow up. Hands up who wants to be a doctor!

It was a very interesting afternoon. Thank you very much Dr Haynes!

Bug Club

Everyone should now have received their login details for Bug Club – our interactive reading programme. This gives the children an alternative medium to read the books that we also use in school, where the children can collect rewards along the way. You may find that your child is assigned a book to read that they have already had. Please re-read the book if this happens.

You can access the Bug Club site here;

Letters and Sounds

Most of us have been continuing to learn Phase 3 sounds this term. So far we have learnt;

sh, ch, th, ng, ai, ee, igh and oa.

We have been practising reading and writing these sounds in words and have sent home sound cards with additional words on the back to learn and practise at home. There are also many free games online to support learning in class. Why not try these..

Turnips

Welcome back and happy new year!  We have only been back for three days and already have packed in lots of learning. Our story this term is The Enormous Turnip so on Thursday we retold the story in the woods, chopped up turnips and carrots to make turnip soup. Mrs Bugg and Mrs Saeed took the vegetables home and made soup. We all tasted the soup on Friday.  Some of us thought it was disgusting but most of us thought it was delicious!

What did you all think of the soup? What is your favourite soup? Please add your comments below to share in class.
