Welcome back! We hope that you all had a restful and fun break and are ready and raring to go with Term 2. Â We have already been busy this week… Yesterday we had a very sparkly introduction to our new Talk for Writing story – How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning to retell the story using actions.
Today we did Outdoor Learning in the rain. Unfortunately we did not have enough adult helpers to go to the woods, so we stayed on the school field, searched for three different leaves and began making stick stars.
Letters and sounds lessons have started again this week. Â We have now learnt the following phonemes
Please keep practising each phoneme at home using the sound sheets we send home each week. Practise reading the words on the back of each sheet by sounding out each phoneme and blending the sounds together. Don’t worry if your child doesn’t manage to blend initially, often it takes practise, practise, practise.
Tomorrow morning we will be taking the Reception children to the church to meet Sandy and to have a good look around. If any mums, dads or grandparents can spare an hour from 9-10am to walk the children across then we would be very grateful. Please let us know in the morning if you can help.
Today we have been reading ‘I Can’t Do This’ by KJ Walton.
We talked about developing a growth mind set where instead of saying “I can’t do this”, we say “I can’t do this yet”. We have to keep thinking and thinking and trying and trying until we can do it.
Here we are having a good think about what we are really good at and what we would like to be able to do that we can’t do yet.
Isaac would like to learn how to build a dragon. Jacob wants to learn how to write words. Keira wants to be able to draw a butterfly. Poppy wants to learn how to do a handstand. Mimi wants to ride her bike without stabilisers.
All Reception parents and carers should have now received details for signing in to view their child’s learning journey. Thank you to all of you that have already registered. If you are having difficulties then please let us know.
The interactive learning diary is a great way to see all the activities and achievements your children have been getting up to at school and also gives you the opportunity to upload comments, photos and videos of things the children get up to at home.

This week we have been innovating our class retell of the Little Red Hen by changing the Little Red Hen’s friends. In our original story there is a bull, a cat and a rat. Yesterday, to match our sound of the day ‘g’ we used a goat, a gorilla and a gazelle. Today we used an otter, an ostrich and an orangutan for ‘o’. Tomorrow our sound of the day will be ‘c’. I wonder which animals we will choose???

Don’t forget it is Outdoor Learning tomorrow for our reception children. Please send your child in to school wearing navy, grey or black leggings or joggers. Looks like it is going to be a dry sunny morning!
