This can be done by physically separating a group, or constructing a group from two kinds of things<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lego towers \u2013 When you snap your tower into two parts how many bricks do you have in each part? 10 Lego bricks in a tower could be split into 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7 etc. Make towers of smaller numbers than ten and larger numbers than ten as appropriate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put things in two containers in different ways, e.g. beads in two bowls or Playmobil people in two boxes. How many are in each box? Can you do it a different way?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make a number with two kinds of things. For example, make a fruit skewer with five pieces of fruit, using a bowl of bananas\/strawberries to choose from. Make more than one. Are they the same? How are they different?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bunny Ears \u2013 Using your fingers like bunny ears. \u201cWith two hands, show me five fingers. Can you do it in a different way? OR \u201cShow five fingers altogether with another person.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Addition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(add, more, plus, sum, total, altogether)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combine two groups of objects to find the total by counting all the objects\u2026 (How many altogether? ) Use toy cars or Lego or Playmobil people, stones in the garden and sticks. What else could you use?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Count on to find the total \u2013 four add four\u2026 count on 5,6,7,8 to find the total.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solve problems by adding two single digit numbers \u2013 make up addition story problems, e.g.\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Five fish were swimming in the pond and then five more appeared. How many fish are there altogether? There are ten fish altogether.<br \/>\n<\/i><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">You can draw pictures for your number problems (draw five fish in one colour and five fish in another colour).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Subtraction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (subtract, take away, fewer, less, left)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collect ten objects and practise taking a certain number of objects away. Use language such as \u2018I have 10 stones. If I take 5 stones away, how many are left?\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notice and talk about subtraction in everyday life &#8211; taking clothes off a washing line\/cookies disappearing from a plate<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solve problems by taking away a single digit number from another single digit number &#8211; make up subtraction number stories, e.g.\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;\">Nine frogs were sitting on a log and then five of them jumped into the pond. How many frogs are still on the log?
