Following a casual conversation some 5 years ago between an ex-school governor and myself, after a long tale of “twists and turns”, I’m delighted to say that the opportunity of a community-owned school solar roof has emerged! With the dedicated help and assistance of a number of school governors and officers and Gloucestershire Community Energy Cooperative (“GCEC”), GCEC is now offering shares to the local community to fund the installation of the project at the school early next year. The project would:

•  increase in the use of renewable energy sources;
•  reduce the school’s electricity bills;
•  reduce the school’s carbon footprint; and
•  provide an opportunity for parents to fund and own part of the solar roof.

At the end of the year of COP26, the launch of the school’s Eco Project and multiple climate-change related news stories, here is an opportunity to “make a difference”.  Following sterling work by a number of volunteers, school governors/officers and Gloucestershire Community Energy Cooperative (“GCEC”), GCEC is now offering shares to the local community to fund the installation of the project at the school early next year.

The project would:

  • reduce the school’s electricity bills;
  • reduce the school’s carbon footprint; and
  • provide a forecast annual interest rate of 2.5%.
