Desired Outcome:<br \/>\nFeedback that results in cognitive rather than emotional response.<br \/>\nFeedback that motivates pupils to take a next step.<br \/>\nTeacher\u2019s time used more efficiently<br \/>\nMore opportunities for teachers to interact with pupils as close to the coal face as possible<\/p>\n<p>Evaluation<br \/>\nWe interviewed the pupils:<br \/>\nIn what way does this feedback make you think?<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cIt has given me a reminder of something I need to check back on.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cIt forces me to go back and improve and to rethink the sentence\/answer.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cIt pushes me to do something I am not happy with and challenges me.\u201d<br \/>\nHow does this feedback help you improve your work?<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cI can have better vocab\/sentences.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cMy work becomes better through this as I am always looking to improve.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cForces me to try new things that I probably wouldn\u2019t do by myself.\u201d<br \/>\nHow did receiving this feedback make you feel?<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cIt depends on who the feedback comes from \u2013 I can sometimes panic if it is from an adult as I think it\u2019s going to be confusing.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 I can panic if the EBI is going to ask me to do something I am not confident with.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00b7 \u201cI like getting advice from others and new ideas.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt can be annoying being asked to improve something when I feel I have done my best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked who they prefer receiving feedback from:<br \/>\n18\/28 \u2013 Preferred receiving it from an adult<br \/>\nJustifications \u2013 Get stronger feedback from them, the adult has more experience, I trust the adult more than the child, they read it properly<br \/>\n2\/28 \u2013 Preferred receiving it from a talk partner<br \/>\nJustifications \u2013 they don\u2019t hide the truth, they offer new ideas<br \/>\n8\/28 \u2013 Preferred receiving it from a friend<br \/>\nJustifications \u2013 they know how to tell me something \u2018bad\u2019, they won\u2019t hurt my feelings when they offer advice<br \/>\nEvaluation \u2013 final results and conclusion:<br \/>\nWe have found that the children are more engaged with their feedback and more motivated to want to take the next step in their learning. They are also more independent in generating or choosing feedback related to their own work or their partners work, although some children still need more scaffolding with this, with particular regards to peer feedback. From questioning the children, it is evident that they prefer feedback from teachers as opposed to their feedback buddies and they often deem their partners comment \u2018useless\u2019; this can however improve with further training and practice and this will be incorporated into our planning during Spring 2018. We will give the children explicit opportunities within lessons to understand how to generate appropriate and useful feedback. We will continue to focus on pupil autonomy, ensuring that each child reaches their full potential.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Planned feedback lessons.
