{"id":600,"date":"2016-11-21T18:58:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T18:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.minchacademy.net\/actionresearch\/?p=600"},"modified":"2022-01-20T09:16:09","modified_gmt":"2022-01-20T09:16:09","slug":"effective-questioning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.minchacademy.net\/actionresearch\/2016\/11\/21\/effective-questioning\/","title":{"rendered":"Effective questioning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Background<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The kinds of questions teachers ask determine how far the discussion deepens children&#8217;s learning and understanding.&#8217; (Wiliam 2008)<\/p>\n<p>After embedding metacognition through learning powers, growth mindset and the learning pit, we worked on higher level questioning.<\/p>\n<p>We trained ourselves using these question sets, a week at a time, until we were fluent in questioning. An unexpected outcome has been the children taking the questions from us and using them on each other.
