(pt 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Part 2 -Achieving Effective Talk &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><em>maximising the learning opportunities\u00a0with\u00a0the Talk Partner strategy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Part 1 of the &#8216;<em>Time To Talk!<\/em>&#8216; post described how and why we have implemented the <strong>Talk Partner<\/strong> strategy in our class. \u00a0The natural follow on from this was a discussion with the pupils about what makes a <strong>good<\/strong> talk partner.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58\" style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-58\" src=\"http:\/\/www.minchacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/talk-partners-success-criteria-creation-poster_Page_3-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"Blank bingo card given to the children.\" width=\"294\" height=\"208\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blank bingo card given to the children.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>What we did:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We co-constructed the success criteria for Talk Partners in class, using the blank bingo card method (as described in the post <a href=\"http:\/\/actionresearch.minchacademy.net\/2016\/02\/05\/i-wish-these-children-had-been-my-maths-teacher\/\">&#8220;<em>I wish these children had been my Maths teacher!<\/em>&#8220;<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The children and I thought about what does <em>not<\/em> make a good talk partner and the subsequent discussion drew out ingredients for being a <em>good<\/em> talk partner. \u00a0The pupils filled their cards\u00a0in with their thoughts about what being a good Talk Partner involved&#8230;&#8230;.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-59 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.minchacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/09\/talk-partners-success-criteria-creation-poster_Page_2-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"talk partners success criteria creation &amp; slip, which they then give to their partner, saying why they enjoyed learning with them. \u00a0The children love receiving them and keep these complimentary slips in a special book, which they (and I) can look at over time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Outcomes:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Achieving all the success criteria will need training, and I intend to look at each one in more depth over time, creating tasks that will specifically target areas that require it. \u00a0The <em>immediate<\/em> impact I have seen is:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>that children are aware of the importance of looking at each other when speaking;<\/li>\n<li>they are beginning to take a shared responsibility for each others&#8217; learning, ensuring that together, they both complete tasks set, helping each other along the way;<\/li>\n<li>the amount of pupil speaking and listening has increased dramatically;<\/li>\n<li>and my talk has decreased, allowing me to\u00a0listen in to their conversations and gain immediate formative feedback, and give immediate feedback, clearing up misconceptions as they arise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to watching this develop over time and believe it will help\u00a0me to have a clearer focus for assessment in lessons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Part 2 -Achieving Effective Talk &#8211;\u00a0maximising the learning opportunities\u00a0with\u00a0the Talk Partner strategy.
