Isambard Kingdom Brunel

To help us to learn about how life was in the past, we have been finding out about the famous engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  Locally, he has built many of our landmarks. Recently, it was the 150th Anniversary of the completion of his Clifton Suspension Bridge. He designed and constructed Temple Meads railway station and Paddington Station in London and the complete railway line in between.  His SS Great Britain, in Bristol Harbour is worth a visit if you haven’t been. Once we had gathered some information about him, we wrote a report. Here is our retell.

Interactive Learning Diary

All Aqua Class parents and carers should have now received details for signing in to view their child’s learning journey. Thank you to all of you that have already logged on. If you are having difficulties then please let me know.
The interactive learning diary is a great way to see all the activities and achievements your children have been getting up to at school and also gives you the opportunity to upload comments, photos and videos of things the children get up to at home.

First week back

Last week was a busy one after our week away.  On Monday we celebrated Chinese New Year in Aqua Class. First we cleaned the classroom to ward off the evil spirits, then we decorated the classroom with red and gold lanterns and even made some Good Luck banners with Chinese writing. We then performed a Lion Dance using drums and cymbals to make the music. Finally we ate some Chinese food (Prawn Crackers) whilst we listened to a Chinese story – The Magic Paintbrush.

On Tuesday we learnt the story of the Great Race – how the Chinese Zodiac was made. It was very interesting and we found out that those of us who are 5 years old were born in the Year of the Ox and those of us who are still 4 years old were born in the Year of the Tiger. This year is Year of the Sheep / Goat.  We then started thinking about goats and we were introduced to our new story of the term – The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We went out onto the playground with Midnight and Teal class where we used scrap to make bridges.

On Wednesday We drew small, medium sized and big goats in our books and watched Noah from Midnight class’s goat videos. They were great and taught us what the goats look like, where they sleep and what they eat. In the afternoon we put on our wellies and got out onto the school field searching for treasures.

On Thursday we were very lucky to have a PE lesson with Mrs Bugg who taught us how to do forward rolls safely. It was such fun and most of us had managed it by the end of the session.

Friday came around all too quickly and we ended the week with a trip down to the pond to take a sneaky peek at the frogs. Spring is on its way and lots of frogs are in the pond getting ready to lay their frogspawn. We managed to stay very quiet so that we didn’t frighten any of the frogs away. There were lots!

I wonder what next week will bring…?
